New Delhi: IPS officer Mandeep Singh Randhawa has been selected for appointment as Director in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. According to an order from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Randhawa has been selected for appointment under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. "He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways," the order added.
Randhawa is a 2006-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Uttarakhand cadre. He is currently serving as Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Delhi. He was recommended for the Central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (earlier known as Ministry of Shipping) is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules and regulations and laws relating to ports, shipping and waterways, headed by Mansukh L Mandaviya. It represents the pace, structure and pattern of development of water transport in the country. The ministry encompasses the shipping and port sectors which include shipbuilding and repair, major ports, national waterways and inland water transport. The ministry has been entrusted with the responsibility to formulate policies and programmes on these subjects and their implementation.
