New Delhi: Vineet Singhal (IRSME) has been selected for the appointment as Director in the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPWD). According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on Wednesday, he has been selected for the appointment under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS) for a period of five years, with effect from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier.

Singhal is an Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer of 2002-batch. He has been associated with the Indian Railways for more than two decades. Singhal was recommended for the Central deputation by the Ministry of Railways. "He may kindly be relieved of his duties immediately with instructions to take up his new assignment in the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities," the order further read.

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPWD) under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment facilitates the empowerment of the persons with disabilities, who as per Census 2011 are 2.68 crore and are 2.21 percent of the total population of the Country. These include persons with visual, hearing, speech & locomotive disabilities, mental retardation, mental illness, multiple disabilities and any other disabilities.
