New Delhi: REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Power, has pledged Rs 8.44 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to support the establishment of a 1MW multitechnology, ground-mounted, grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plant at the Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.
The financial assistance will facilitate the creation of a cutting-edge solar power plant, which will not only meet the power requirements of the institute but also serve as a hub for advanced research into state-of-the-art solar technologies, including panels and inverters. The project will be implemented by GRI in technical collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the initiative was signed on January 9, by REC Limited's Chief Project Manager (REC Regional Office Chennai) Thara Ramesh and the representative of GRI Dr L Rathakrishnan. The signing ceremony was held in the esteemed presence of REC's Independent Director Narayanan Thirupathy.
This solar photovoltaic power plant will make the Gandhigram Rural Institute self-reliant in its energy needs while offering opportunities for students and research scholars to engage with the latest advancements in solar technology. By fostering research and development in renewable energy, the initiative aligns with REC’s commitment to sustainability and technological innovation under its CSR framework.
