Govt accommodation to now be available to kin of martyrs for 1 year

Defence Minister has extended the period of retention of government accommodation for the kin of battle casualties to one year from the existing three months

New Delhi: In a big relief for kin of battle casualties, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved a proposal to extend the period of retention of government accommodation for the family members of battle casualties from all the three services (Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force) to one year from the existing three months.

In view of the requirements and demands of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence reviewed the existing provisions and recommended the extension of the period to boost the morale of the service personnel, said a press release from the Ministry of Defence on Tuesday.

Currently, the family of an Armed Forces personnel killed in action against enemy forces or whilst enemy air attacks are permitted retention of government accommodation for three months. It has now been extended to one year.
