New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and France-based Safran Aircraft Engines have signed an agreement to industrialize and produce rotating parts for LEAP engines, furthering their longstanding collaboration. The agreement was formalized on June 18 at the 55th Paris Air Show.
The contract has been signed by HAL's General Manager (LCA Division) Abdul Salam and Safran Aircraft Engines' Vice President (Purchasing) Dominique Dupuy. This development marks another key step under the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiative and follows a series of earlier agreements between the two companies — including a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2023 and a contract in February 2025 for the production of superalloy forged parts.
Under the new agreement, HAL will manufacture Inconel parts using its advanced Ring Rolling facility at the Foundry & Forge Division in Bengaluru. The parts will support the LEAP engine program, which powers single-aisle civil aircraft worldwide. HAL’s successful development of near-net Ring Forging technology has paved the way for this industrial cooperation, with further plans underway to jointly develop technology for other critical engine components.
Commenting on the development, HAL's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Dr DK Sunil, said, “We are really proud to expand this long-standing partnership with Safran and to develop our industrial expertise in forging processes for Inconel parts for the LEAP program.”
Safran Aircraft Engines’ Purchasing Vice President, Dominique Dupuy, added, “We are pleased to extend our collaboration with HAL, a key player of the Indian aerospace industry. This industrial cooperation is part of our roadmap to diversify our production sourcing and strengthen our industrial footprint in India, so as to support the growth of domestic air traffic with our LEAP engine and prepare for future requirements of military parts.”
The partnership underscores Safran’s commitment to building a robust aerospace ecosystem in India by establishing new manufacturing facilities and deepening cooperation with Indian partners. It also reflects India’s growing role in the global aerospace supply chain as the country witnesses a surge in civil and military aviation requirements.
