New Delhi: Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), a leading defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has announced the appointment of Veni Thapar as a Part-time Non-Official (Independent) Director on its board. The appointment, approved by the Ministry of Defence, is effective from April 21, 2025, for a period of one year or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The announcement was made through a regulatory filing with BSE on Tuesday.
Thapar brings to the Board over a decade of diverse professional experience and a strong academic background. She is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), a Cost Accountant from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMA), and a Certified Information Systems Auditor from ISACA, USA. Her credentials also include certifications in International Taxation, Information Systems Audit, IT and Cyber Security for Board Members from IDRBT, and the Directors Development Program from Harvard Business Publishing and EgonZehnder.
Currently serving as a senior partner in a reputed firm of Chartered Accountants, Thapar has extensive experience in statutory and internal audits, bank audits, government audits, information systems audits, and consultancy across company law, indirect taxation, FEMA, and RBI compliance. She also holds board-level experience with listed and unlisted organisations across a range of sectors.
The company confirmed that Thapar is not debarred from holding the office of director by any statutory authority and is not disqualified under Section 164 of the Companies Act, 2013. Furthermore, she has no relationships with the existing board members of MDL.
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd., headquartered in Mumbai, is a premier shipyard involved in the construction of warships and submarines for the Indian Navy and offshore platforms and support vessels for offshore oil drilling.
