New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) has been conferred with the prestigious Golden Peacock CSR Award 2024 at the 19th International Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility held in Mumbai on Thursday. The award was received by CIL Chairman Shri P.M. Prasad and Director (Personnel) Shri Vinay Ranjan at a ceremony organized by the Institute of Directors.
This recognition highlights CIL’s steadfast commitment to creating a meaningful social impact through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The company has positively influenced over 35 million lives through various welfare programs, reinforcing its role as a key contributor to national development.
Coal India Ltd. has consistently emerged as the highest CSR spender among Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) for the past five years. In the last fiscal year alone, the company allocated Rs 572 crore towards CSR initiatives. A significant portion of these funds, over 70 percent, has been directed toward critical areas such as Healthcare, Nutrition & Sanitation, and Education & Livelihood, underscoring CIL’s commitment to holistic community development.
Beyond its financial contributions, CIL has played a pivotal role in national initiatives. The company constructed over 50,000 toilets under the Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, aimed at improving sanitation facilities in schools. Additionally, CIL has invested more than Rs 850 crore in transforming Aspirational Districts, supporting the government’s efforts to uplift underdeveloped regions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company contributed over Rs 700 crore to aid in curbing the spread of the virus across the country, further demonstrating its commitment to public welfare.
