New Delhi: Airports Authority of India (AAI) and AAI Cargo Logistics and Allied Services Company Limited (AAICLAS), the logistics arm of AAI, have signed a license agreement for in-line hold baggage screening at airports. According to this agreement, AAICLAS will carry out hold baggage screening function under the control, supervision and administration of AAI. This service will be developed at various domestic and international airports. This is in compliance with the norms of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).

In the in-line baggage screening at airports, passengers don't have to queue up near the X-ray machines to scan their baggage before check-in. The system can scan 1,200 bags per hour. It makes use of a high-slice X-ray and segregates bags with suspicious content automatically. Each baggage passes through four levels of detection. The screener takes five images of each bag from different angles.
"With effect from October 1, AAICLAS will first commence operations on stand-alone baggage screening system at Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Calicut Airports. Thereafter, in a phased manner, it will switch over to BCAS-approved ILBS system at all airports in the country. This synergy will create effective control and accountability in the baggage screening system," an official release said.
AAICLAS is an independent subsidiary of AAI with a primary focus on Air Cargo handling and allied services.
The news comes days after AAI's northeast regional headquarters organised a symposium to discuss infrastructure, fire preventing solutions and safety on Airports.
