Guwahati: A two-day search and rescue (SAR) workshop was organised by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Guwahati from November 7 to 8. The objective of the workshop was primarily to sensitise controllers posted at airports within the northeastern region, which are alerting posts of RSC Guwahati. The workshop also covered the subject on Indian search and rescue system, the challenges involved, emerging technologies along with a focus on the roles of alerting posts in the SAR System.

Search and Rescue (SAR) workshop was inaugurated by Commissioner of Guwahati Police Hiren Chandra Nath (IPS) in the presence of AAI's (NER) Regional Executive Director Sanjeev Jindal, Airport (Guwahati) Director Ramesh Kumar and other guests from the state government, defence and other organisations.

Addressing the participating members, Jindal said that the aviation sector is the sector where we can't risk any machinery and to minimize the risk, the ever-changing technology has equipped us with tools to check it. "Even though accidents happen and we face it to learn from mistakes, the role of SAR becomes important. I wish these types of events should be organised in every operational sector and all must benefit from it," he added.

The workshop was aimed at filling up the gap between AAI and various agencies of SAR operation so as to have better coordination and management of SAR operation in the northeastern region and India as a whole.
