Ajay Kumar Bhalla appointed new Union Home Secretary

Bhalla will assume charge as Union Home Secretary after taking the baton from Rajiv Gauba, who was appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary

New Delhi: Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who is currently serving as an officer on special duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs, was appointed as the new Union Home Secretary on Thursday, an official said.

Bhalla's new appointment has got a nod from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will take the baton from Rajiv Gauba, who was appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary on Wednesday.

Bhalla is a 1984-batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IAS officer who has served as the Union Power Secretary before being appointed as OSD to the Home Ministry on July 24. He will have a fixed two-year tenure till August 2021 as the Home Secretary.
