AK Agrawal appointed as Director (Technical) of MECON

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Steel for the appointment of Arun Kumar Agrawal as Director (Technical) of MECON Limited, a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Steel. Agrawal has been appointed for a period with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post on or after June 1, till the date of his superannuation i.e. May 31, 2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, said an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). Currently, he is serving as General Manager (Technical Services) in the same organisation. Earlier, PSU Watch had reported that Agrawal was recommended for the post of Director (Technical) of MECON Limited by a PESB panel on January 16. He was selected from a list of 11 candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel.

MECON Limited

MECON Limited, formerly known as Metallurgical & Engineering Consultants (India) Limited is a PSU under the Ministry of Steel. The company began in 1959 as the Central Engineering and Designing Bureau (CEDB) of the Hindustan Steel Limited (HSL), the first public sector steel company. Subsequently, CEDB grew as Metallurgical and Engineering Consultant (MECON), a subsidiary of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in 1973. It later became an autonomous company reporting to the Ministry of Steel in 1978.
