AK Agrawal set to be Director (Technical) of MECON

New Delhi: Arun Kumar Agrawal is set to be the next Director (Technical) of MECON Limited, a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Steel. His name has been recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Thursday. He is currently serving as General Manager (Technical Services) in the same organisation. With his new appointment, Agrawal will succeed PK Sarangi, who is serving in the steel PSU since February 14, 1983.

Agrawal has been recommended for the post of Director (Technical) from a list of 11 candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel. A total of six candidates including Agrawal, who were on the list were from MECON Limited, two candidates from BSNL Limited and others were from Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Ltd (CMPDIL), Engineers India Limited and JSW Steel Limited.

MECON Limited

MECON Limited, formerly known as Metallurgical & Engineering Consultants (India) Limited is a PSU under the Ministry of Steel. The company began in 1959 as the Central Engineering and Designing Bureau (CEDB) of the Hindustan Steel Limited (HSL), the first public sector steel company. Subsequently, CEDB grew as Metallurgical and Engineering Consultant (MECON), a subsidiary of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in 1973. It later became an autonomous company reporting to the Ministry of Steel in 1978.
