G Kamala Vardhana Rao is new CMD of ITDC

New Delhi: G Kamala Vardhana Rao (IAS) has been appointed as new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Tourism.

G Kamala Vardhana Rao is an IAS officer of 1990 batch from Kerala cadre. Prior to his appointment as CMD of ITDC, he was serving as Principal Secretary of Kerala government. He had also served as the Secretary, Kerala Tourism in 2014-15. In a span of about three decades, Rao has served in multiple positions including Chairman of Indian Tobacco Board, Director of Fisheries Department, Director of Department of Tourism and Culture of Andhra Pradesh government.

ITDC was incorporated in 1966 with a mandate to develop and expand tourism infrastructure in the country. The corporation has been moving ahead with consistent efforts on development, growth and world-class services and amenities to its guests. Apart from running hotels, the ITDC has diversified into non-hotel sectors like ticketing, tours and travels, event management, duty-free shopping, publicity and printing consultancy, engineering consultancy, mounting sound and light shows, hospitality education, and skill development.
