New Delhi: Arvind Sawant, a Shiv Sena MP took charge of the Union Minister of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises Tuesday, in the Ministry. Sawant is the second time MP from South Mumbai and he defeated Congress candidate Milind Deora who was openly supported by industrialist Mukesh Ambani.

Speaking on this occasion Sawant said that both the departments of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises are main contributors to employment generation in the country. He further said that he will make all efforts to re-generate and re-develop the sick industries under the Ministry and fulfil the main objective of the Government which is the creation of jobs.

For Sawant life has come a full circle as he himself has once been a PSU employee and has now taken charge as the union minister of Public Enterprises. Sawant comes from a middle-class family. He used to work with the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). He is learnt to have had a major role in forming the Shiv Sena's union at MTNL at the beginning of the 1990s. He quit the job late in the 1990s and joined politics.

The union minister was welcomed by Heavy Industries, Secretary, Asha Ram Sihag and Public Enterprises Secretary, Seema Bahuguna, senior officers of both Departments and Public Enterprises.
