SK Gomasta takes charge as Director (Technical) of CMPDI

Satendra Kumar Gomasta, who was working as General Manager in NCL, has assumed charge as Director (Technical) of CMPDI on Wednesday

New Delhi: Satendra Kumar Gomasta has taken over as Director (Technical) of CMPDI (Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, on Wednesday. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as General Manager in Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL).

Gomasta was recommended for the post of Director (Technical) of CMPDI by a PESB panel on October 30, 2019. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had approved his appointment on February 12. PSU Watch has a copy of the letter that says "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his appointment for the post for a period with effect from February 26, till the date of his superannuation i.e., September 30, 2023, or until further orders, whichever is earlier".

Education & background

Gomasta obtained a degree in Mining Engineering from Raipur Engineering College, Raipur in 1984. He passed the Mine Manager's certificate of competency with first class in the year 1989. He also possesses a postgraduate degree in Marketing Management (MBA). He started his career in the coal industry from Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in the year 1984. He has worked in different capacities in underground and opencast mining in the subsidiary companies of Coal India Limited (CIL) namely Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL). He has a vast working experience of 16 years in opencast mines and 18 years in underground mines.

Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI)

The Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) is a fully owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited, engaged in the field of environmental engineering and provides consultancy and engineering services across the globe. CMPDI was established in 1974, under Coal Mines Authority Limited (CMAL) (former name of Coal India Limited), out of the planning division of now-defunct National Coal Development Corporation (NCDC) as a single-window set up to consolidate all aspects of Indian mining industry under one roof. Subsequent to the nationalisation of coal mining in India, CMPDI was reconstituted as a public sector undertaking in 1975.
