Gorityala Veera Mahendar assumes charge as Member in CEA

Gorityala Veera Mahendar, who was serving as General Manager in REC Limited, has assumed charge as Member (E&C) in Central Electricity Authority (CEA)

New Delhi: Gorityala Veera Mahendar has Joined Central Electricity Authority (CEA) as Member (E&C). Earlier, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had approved his appointment for the post on October 22. PSU Watch was the first to report the news of the approval. Prior to this assignment, he was with the procurement and contracts division and spearheaded Government E Market (GeM) implementation in REC Limited.

Mahendar's profile

Mahendar has vast experience of 37 years in the Power sector.  He has secured university rank and distinction in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania University College of Engineering. He joined NTPC as Engineering Executive Trainee in 1983. He completed his MBA from Osmania University while working in the Ramagundam facility of NTPC. He further pursued a Masters in Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila Philippines with the Asian Development Bank scholarship. He also has a certificate in cost accountancy. 

In NTPC, his experience was in super thermal power station commissioning, operation & maintenance, technical services, efficiency operation services and commercial areas. He was on deputation to A P Electricity Regulatory Commission as Joint Director (Tariff) and played critical role in reforms of Andhra Pradesh Electricity sector. He joined REC Limited in 2013 and headed the Entity Appraisal division, introduced new Financial products and New Investments. His contributions in Renewable Energy financing considering Hybrid investments as part of promoter contribution and electrical buses funding for the first time are noteworthy contributions.

Central Electricity Authority (CEA)

The Central Electricity Authority of India (CEA) is a statutory organisation. The CEA advises central government, state governments and regulatory commissions on all technical matters relating to generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. It also advises state governments, licensees or generating companies on matters which enable them to operate and maintain the electricity system under their ownership or control in an improved manner. Officers from the Central Power Engineering Services Cadre, recruited through Engineering Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, are posted to the Central Electricity Authority of India.
