Santosa Kumar Pal set to be elevated as Director (Technical) of SECL

New Delhi: (PESB Recommendation) Santosa Kumar Pal is set to be the next Director (Technical) of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Coal India subsidiary and Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal. Pal's name has been recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Wednesday. Currently, he is serving as General Manager in the same organisation.

Pal has been recommended for the post of Director (Technical) of SECL from a list of nine candidates who were interviewed by the selection panel. The list had two candidates from NLC India Limited and two from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), one each from Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited. Pal was the only candidate from SECL.

As Director (Technical) of SECL, Pal will be responsible for the operation of mines and also field activities, technical functions, and safety of mines. Currently, Ravindra Kumar Nigam is serving as Director (Technical) of SECL but he is set to superannuate on November 1 this year.

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL)

SECL is the largest coal-producing company in India. It is a "Miniratna" company and one of eight fully-owned subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. The company has its headquarter at Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh) and has 92 mines spread over Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh; 70 underground, 21 opencast, and 1 mixed. It is a schedule 'B' Mini Ratna CPSE of coal and lignite.
