New Delhi: Saurabh Kumar, Executive Vice Chairman of state-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), has stepped down from his position citing personal reasons, two sources aware of the matter told PSU Watch. PSU Watch tried to reach out to Kumar to confirm the news, but he was not available. According to sources, Kumar is in Dubai currently. Kumar was elevated to the position of Executive Vice Chairman of EESL on April 1 this year.

According to the resignation letter accessed by PSU Watch, Kumar's appointment was valid for five years and he was supposed to serve a notice period of one month. However, he has requested to be relieved of his duties by September 30 and is on leave, starting September 15 until the month-end.

Kumar led EESL's most ambitious energy efficiency programmes of EESL and oversaw the implementation of the world's largest non-subsidised distribution programme of LED lamps under the UJALA scheme. EESL procured LED lamps in bulk through competitive bidding and in the process reduced the price of an LED bulb from Rs 310 apiece to Rs 40 within three years.
