NHAI inks pact with IMD to leverage advanced weather intelligence for highways

NHAI has signed an MoU with IMD to strengthen collaboration in leveraging advanced weather intelligence for national highway development and road safety

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to strengthen collaboration in leveraging advanced weather intelligence for national highway development and road safety.

The MoU has been signed on Wednesday in the presence of NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, along with senior officials from both organisations.

The partnership aims to integrate weather-based insights into the planning, construction, and operation of National Highways. By leveraging real-time weather monitoring, impact-based forecasts, and early warning systems, the collaboration is expected to enhance road safety and ensure better protection of highway assets.

According to the official communication, the initiative will facilitate weather-informed decision-making, enabling NHAI to respond more effectively to extreme weather events and climatic variations. It will also support the development of resilient and future-ready highway infrastructure across the country.
