New Delhi: NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), India’s youngest integrated steel producer, has reported its best-ever monthly performance in November 2025, marking record output and efficiency gains across multiple operational units.
According to the company, NSL demonstrated strong capacity utilisation, process optimisation and operational stability throughout the month, setting benchmarks in raw material handling, sinter production, blast furnace operations, crude steel output and hot-rolled (HR) coil manufacturing.
In November, NSL’s Raw Material Handling System (RMHS) achieved its highest single-day wagon tippling count of 616 on November 21, 2025, and recorded monthly base mix production of 5,18,886 tonnes. The sinter plant delivered a peak daily production of 15,590 tonnes on November 30 and touched 4,14,271 tonnes for the month, operating at over 105 percent of rated capacity.
NSL’s blast furnace registered significant gains with a day-high hot metal production of 11,315 tonnes on November 28, reaching 119 percent capacity utilisation. Monthly hot metal output stood at 2,80,049 tonnes, crossing 101 percent capacity utilisation. The company also recorded its lowest-ever average fuel rate of 519 kg per tonne of hot metal, achieved using only sinter and ore, a performance described as among the best in the country. Pulverised Coal Injection (PCI) rates reached a monthly average high of 164 kg per tonne.
The Steel Melting Shop and Thin Slab Caster–Hot Strip Mill continued the trend of record-setting performance. The plant produced 2,03,356 tonnes of HR coils, 2,09,445 tonnes of crude steel, and 2,15,010 tonnes of liquid steel in November, with capacity utilisation surpassing 84 percent, 85 percent and 86 percent respectively. NSL also achieved its longest converter lining life of 4,799 heats and commenced commercial production of two new steel grades — IS 2062 E450BR and IS 2062 E350C — aimed at construction, infrastructure and heavy engineering sectors.
Cost optimisation measures contributed to additional savings, with NSL reporting a power cost reduction of approximately Rs 1.9 crore by running its oxygen plant in single-plant turndown mode. The company also completed performance guarantee tests for the blast furnace and turbo blower systems and obtained BIS licences for IS 2041:2024 and IS 2062 E450BR.
Commenting on the strong performance, NSL Chairman & Managing Director Amitava Mukherjee said, “The consistent record-breaking achievements across units reflect the dedication, discipline and determination of our team. As India accelerates its journey towards becoming a global steel powerhouse, NSL is ready to play its part in the country’s steel growth story with technology-backed efficiency, a growing product portfolio and a commitment to nation-building.”
NSL, located in Nagarnar, has been ramping up operations steadily in line with India’s increasing demand for domestic steel and is positioning itself as a key contributor to the national manufacturing ecosystem.
