Take Off: Bilaspur airport gets DGCA approval for commercial fights

According to experts the decision of DGCA will give a big boost to commercial operations of regional air connectivity as UDAN is scaling new heights of success

New Delhi/ Raipur: Here is a good news for people of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Government of India has given approval for operations of commercial fights from Bilaspur. That means residents of Bilaspur will now have air connectivity from their city as Bilaspur airport has got the licence for operating commercial flights.

Third commercial airport in the state

The Director General of Civil Aviation has written to the government of Chhattisgarh and Airport Authority of India in this regard. Confirming the communication, Rakesh S Sahay, Director of Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur said, "AAI Raipur has received the letter sent by DGCA on thursday."

As far as flight operations preparations are concerned, officials say that the airport is ready to begin flight operations. "Ninety-seater aircraft can land in the airport. Private players can commence commercial operations from Bilaspur" Sahay added. After state capiatl Raipur and Jagdalpur, the highcourt city of Chhattisgarh Bilaspur is the third airport in the state to get the commercial licence.

Officials of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had inspected the airport in the last week of October and given direction for necessary changes. After all the directives were implemented, the licence was granted.

A local resident of Bilaspur, Jyotirmay Arya said "The decision has come like a new sunrise for everyone out here. We now can hopefully fly to metro cities and do not need to travel down to Raipur in order to catch a flight."
