Union Minister G Kishan Reddy reviews WCL's operations

Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy visited WCL headquarters in Nagpur on February 13, to review the company’s operations

New Delhi: The Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, visited the headquarters of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in Nagpur on February 13, to review the company’s operations. Following discussions with the top management, he chaired a review meeting to assess WCL's performance in production, productivity, coal dispatch, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

During the review meeting, WCL's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) JP Dwivedi, delivered a detailed presentation on the status of mining operations and related challenges faced by the company. The Union Minister, the CMD, and other dignitaries present at the event also unveiled a coffee table book highlighting WCL's progress.

Addressing the gathering, Reddy emphasized the significant role of Western Coalfields Limited in realizing the vision of a developed India by 2047. He urged WCL to adopt new technologies, improve existing systems, and leverage artificial intelligence for enhanced operational efficiency.

Discussions during the meeting covered key topics, including coal gasification, coal quality improvement, systematic mine closures post-extraction, washed coal dispatch, and CSR initiatives. The Minister underlined the importance of strengthening current mining operations and initiating new projects to achieve self-reliance in the coal sector. He assured full support from the Ministry of Coal for these initiatives.

Before the review meeting, the Union Minister participated in a tree plantation ceremony at WCL headquarters. The meeting was attended by Bakki Kartikeyan, IAS, Private Secretary to the Coal Minister; Ajitesh Kumar, Director (Ministry of Coal); A. K. Singh, Director (Technical-Operations); Bikram Ghosh, Director (Finance); Anandji Prasad, Director (Technical-Planning & Project); Hemant Sharad Pandey, Director (Personnel); Ajay Madhukar Mhetre, Chief Vigilance Officer; and other senior officials and General Managers from headquarters and regional offices.
