New Delhi: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has now joined the rescue operations following a coal mine accident in the Assam-Meghalaya border region, 25 km away from Umrangso in Assam's hilly Dima Hasao district. A five-member team from WCL departed from Nagpur for the accident site aboard the Indian Air Force’s C-130 Hercules aircraft.
The team is equipped with a submersible pump capable of pumping 500 gallons of water per minute from a depth of 150 meters, a complex cable network, starters, and other essential equipment. The heavy-duty submersible pump will be installed at the site to extract water, which is seen as a critical solution to rescue the trapped miners.
WCL responded swiftly to an emergency call for assistance, mobilizing the team and necessary equipment within just four hours before dispatching them to Assam.
According to information from the accident site, the WCL team began rescue operations immediately upon arrival and has been actively contributing to the efforts.
The team is led by WCL's Manager (E&M) Suresh Singh Gaur and includes Foreman Dilip Kinekar and Fitters Dilip Nagral, Gurjeet, and Ajay Bonde. The rescue team from WCL is regarded as one of the finest among all subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. In the past, the WCL team had also played a significant role in rescuing individuals trapped in a tunnel in Uttarakhand.
