The news comes after Australia's Claire Polosak became the first woman to officiate a men's ODI in the World Cricket League Division 2 finals in Windhoek earlier this month
New Delhi: India's GS Lakshmi has not just achieved the feat of being the first woman to have entered the International Cricket Council's (ICC) match referee list but is also the first Indian woman to have secured a place there. (ICC) named the 51-year-old woman in its list of elite match officials on Tuesday.
"We are committed to ensuring greater gender parity among our officials, but all appointments are made purely on merit," said Adrian Griffith, ICC Senior Manager, Umpires and Referees.
"Elevation is as a result of a thorough evaluation process that identifies the most talented match officials breaking through to an international level," Griffth added.
The news comes after Australia's Claire Polosak became the first woman to officiate a men's One-Day International (ODI) in the World Cricket League Division 2 finals in Windhoek earlier this month.
Eloise Sheridan, also from Australia, who served as the reserve umpire for two matches in the men's Big Bash League 2018-19, also joined Polosak on the ICC Development Panel of Umpires as its eighth member, the world governing body said.
