New Delhi: New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Deepak Gupta as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of GAIL (India) Ltd, according to an order issued on February 11. “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas for appointment of Shri Deepak Gupta, Director (Projects), GAIL (India) Limited to the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), GAIL (India) Limited,” the order stated.

The ACC order further said Gupta has been appointed “w.e.f. the date of his assumption of charge of the post on or after 01.03.2026, till the date of his superannuation, i.e. 28.02.2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

Selected by PESB in November

Gupta was selected for the top post at GAIL by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) in November 2025. He is currently serving as Director (Projects) at GAIL. His elevation to CMD follows the formal approval by the ACC, completing the appointment process.

Deepak Gupta has been serving as Director (Projects) at GAIL, where he has been responsible for overseeing major infrastructure expansion, including pipeline projects, petrochemicals, and capacity augmentation initiatives.

With decades of experience in the gas transmission and infrastructure segment, Gupta has been associated with the development and execution of key pipeline and processing projects within GAIL’s network. His background in project execution and large-scale infrastructure rollout positions him to lead the company at a time when India’s gas infrastructure expansion and energy transition goals are gaining momentum.
