New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed Shashi Shekhar Vempati as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for a period of three years from the date of assuming charge, according to an official notification issued on Tuesday.

The appointment was notified by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on May 6, 2026.
The post fell vacant following the elevation of Prasoon Joshi as Chairman of Prasar Bharati. Joshi subsequently stepped down from his role as CBFC Chairperson, paving the way for Vempati’s appointment.

Vempati brings extensive experience in media, broadcasting, and public communication to the role. His appointment is expected to further strengthen the functioning of the CBFC, the statutory body responsible for certifying films for public exhibition in India.
