New Delhi: Bhupender Gupta is set to be next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited, a PSU under the Ministry Power. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Wednesday. Presently, he is serving as Director (Technical) at THDC India Limited.
Gupta has been recommended for NHPC’s CMD post from a list of nine candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB Selection panel in its selection meeting held on June 11. Out of nine candidates, three candidates were from NHPC and one each from THDC India Limited, Rec Power Development & Consultancy Limited, Bridge And Roof Company (India) Limited, BSNL Limited, Power Finance Corporation Limited and Indian Railways Accounts Service.
Gupta is a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical with an MBA in Operation Management. Before joining THDC, he was holding the position of Director (Technical) at Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project Authority in Bhutan. He had also worked as Additional Chief Executive Officer in two subsidiaries of REC Limited namely - REC Transmission Projects Co. Ltd and REC Power Distribution Co. Ltd as Operational Head. During his tenure at REC, he was responsible for the Execution, Project Management, Contract Management, and Consultancy of Power Sector Projects.
Gupta has a rich and vast working experience of around 33 years, out of which for around 29 years he has worked in the power sector and was responsible for planning; design; execution; contract & project management and O&M of large Hydro Projects as well as transmission/distribution projects.
Before Joining REC Ltd. in 2007, he worked in SJVN Limited for 12 years in various positions and was responsible for the planning, erection, and commissioning of electro-mechanical equipment of 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Plant, the biggest Hydroelectric project under operation so far in India.
