• ACC has cleared the appointment of Rajiv Jalota (IAS) as the new Chairperson of Mumbai Port Trust

• Rajiv Jalota is a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Maharashtra cadre

• He has replaced Sanjay Bhatia (IAS), who superannuated from the services on July 31

New Delhi: Rajiv Jalota (IAS) is the new Chairperson of Mumbai Port Trust, under the Ministry of Shipping. Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment on Saturday. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Jalota has been appointed as Chairperson (JS Level) of Mumbai Port Trust for a period up to September 30, 2024, i.e. the date of his superannuation or until further orders, whichever is earlier. With his new assignment, he has replaced Sanjay Bhatia (IAS), who superannuated from the services on July 31. Jalota will take charge of the post from JNPT's Chairman Sanjay Sethi (IAS), who is holding additional charge of the post since July 31.

Rajiv Jalota's profile

Jalota is a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Maharashtra cadre. He is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Department of Higher and Technical Education of the state government of Maharashtra.

Jalota is a science graduate (MSc in Organic Chemistry) from Lucknow University. He has also done an MA in International Development Policy from the Duke University of USA. In his career spanning over three decades, he has held various important positions in the state government of Maharashtra which includes Collector of Yavatmal, Collector of Latur, Managing Director (MD) & CEO of SICOM India Limited (Mumbai), Commissioner of Employment and Self Employment, Additional Municipal Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (MCGM) among others.

Mumbai Port Trust

Mumbai Port Trust, under the Ministry of Shipping, has long been the principal gateway to India and has played a pivotal role in the development of the national economy, trade & commerce and prosperity of Mumbai city in particular. The port has achieved this position through continuous endeavor to serve the changing needs of maritime trade. Having weathered and survived many changes in maritime trade in its long history, Mumbai Port is today facing challenges posed by competition from adjoining ports and private ports, changing traffic patterns, inherent physical constraints and continuing labour intensive operations, etc. However, Mumbai Port is taking various measures to render cost-effective and quality services to the trade.
