New Delhi: Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) has achieved a significant milestone in the indigenous development and certification of various critical superalloys, titanium alloys, and special steels for advanced aero engines being developed for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Koraput.
According to the company, MIDHANI has completed material-level development for 50 percent of the total alloy systems required for the programme. Of these, 80 percent have been certified, while the remaining alloy systems are in the advanced stages of development. The Chief Executive of CEMILAC (Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification) has handed over a certificate to MIDHANI’s Chairman and Managing Director, granting clearance for series production of these alloys for manufacturing airworthy components for aero engines.
MIDHANI showcased its successfully developed and produced mill forms and forgings of various nickel-based superalloys, titanium alloys, and special steels. These advanced materials are crucial for the fabrication of performance-critical components in modern aero engines.
Over the past year, the company has augmented its state-of-the-art production facilities, including the commissioning of a new titanium shop to enhance airworthy titanium alloy production capacity, installation of a 6000-tonne near-isothermal forge press, and revamping of Vacuum Induction Melting furnaces to support larger remelt stock and master heats for single-crystal superalloys.
The Chief Executive of CEMILAC lauded MIDHANI’s efforts in advancing indigenisation and certification processes through a fast-track approach, ensuring the timely completion of accelerated material testing for aero engines and contributing to India’s self-reliance in advanced materials for aerospace applications.
