Govind Jaiswal (IAS) set to be DS in Ministry of Health & Family Welfare

New Delhi: Govind Jaiswal (IAS) is set to be Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. He was recommended for Central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs. According to an order from issued on September 11, Jaiswal has been selected for appointment as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Health & Family Welfare, under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of four years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Jaiswal is a 2007-batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer of AGMUT cadre.

Jaiswal is a Science Graduate (B Sc in Mathematics). He comes from a humble background as his father is a rickshaw-puller. He had cleared the civil services examination in the first attempt. He joined Indian Administrative Services as Secretary in the Department of Fisheries, Government of Goa. He has held important positions in the state government of Goa and in the Central government as well.

Department of Health and Family Welfare

The Department of Health and Family Welfare is a department under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The Department deals with health care, including awareness campaigns, immunisation campaigns, preventive medicine, and public health. It is also responsible for aspects relating to family welfare, especially in reproductive health, maternal health, paediatrics, information, education and communications; cooperation with NGOs and international aid groups; and rural health services.
