

New Delhi: Prasanna Kumar Acharya is set to be next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Limited, a PSU under the Ministry of Coal. He has been recommended for the top post of NLC India Ltd by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Wednesday. Presently, he is serving as Director (Finance) in the same organisation.

The recommendation was made during the PESB meeting No. 29/2026 held on April 15. He was among seven candidates who were interviewed by the selection panel for the top post at the company.
The other candidates who appeared for the interview included Jagadish Chandra Mazumdar, Executive Director at NLC India Limited; Jasper Rose I.S, Executive Director handling Mines, Services, Land, and Lignite to Methanol Project at NLC India Limited; B. Anbuchelvan, Chief Executive Officer at NLC India Limited; S. Rajmohan, Executive Director overseeing SME, Conveyor, Transport, Long Term Mine Planning and Mine-3; Vijaya Kumar S, Project Head of Barsingsar Project at NLC India Limited; and Dr. Pudi Hariprasad, Financial Adviser and Chief Accounts Officer, serving as Principal Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Railways.
Dr Acharya is a seasoned professional with over 28 years of experience across Central, State, and private sector organisations. A Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and an Associate Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, he possesses strong academic credentials, including a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Honours) from Utkal University, an LLB from M.S. Law College, Cuttack, a Master’s in Commerce from Ravenshaw University, and an MBA.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Acharya has held diverse roles spanning the power generation, transmission, distribution, mining, and transport sectors. His core areas of expertise include accounts, taxation, project finance, fund raising, and automation. He has also contributed significantly to system improvement, digitisation, and initiatives focused on organisational empowerment and collaboration.
