Sakshi Mittal appointed as Director of Census Operations

Sakshi Mittal, who was recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been appointed as Director of Census Operations

New Delhi: Sakshi Mittal (IAS) is set to be Director of Census Operations (DCO)/Director of Citizen Registration (DCR) of Mizoram.

According to the order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Sakshi Mittal has been selected for the position of Director of Census Operations (DCO)/Director of Citizen Registration (DCR) of Mizoram, at Deputy Secretary level under the Central Staffing Scheme (CSS). She has been appointed for a period up to March 31, 2023, with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until the further orders, whichever is earliest.

Sakshi Mittal is an Indian Administrative Services (IAS: 2010) officer of AGMUT cadre. Prior to this, she was also recommended by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Census of India

The census has undertaken every 10 years, beginning in 1872 under British Viceroy Lord Mayo, the first complete census was taken in 1881. Post-1949, it has been conducted by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. All the censuses since 1951 were conducted under the 1948 Census of India Act. The last census was held in 2011, whilst the next census going to be held in 2021.
