Structure and scope

The agreement envisages the formation of a 50:50 joint venture company. The proposed entity will pursue opportunities in compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy and related sustainable infrastructure projects, in alignment with India's clean energy transition and circular economy objectives.

The JV will explore project opportunities across suitable geographies in India, spanning CBG production, integrated waste-to-energy and sustainable resource recovery.

What each partner brings

OGEL was set up specifically to drive OIL's strategic push into renewable and green energy sectors, including CBG and other emerging clean energy opportunities. OIL itself operates across the hydrocarbon value chain — spanning exploration, production and transportation of crude oil and natural gas — and has been expanding into renewable and green energy in line with India's evolving energy transition agenda.

HWT brings operational depth in the municipal solid waste-based bioenergy sector, with capabilities across design, engineering, construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance of such projects. The company is among a small group of Indian players to have successfully adapted and deployed advanced global bioenergy technologies under domestic conditions, including a municipal solid waste-based biogas plant in North Goa that has been running for over a decade. Its parent, SFC Environmental Technologies Ltd, has an established presence in wastewater treatment and water reuse solutions.

Strategic intent

Representatives of both organisations said the collaboration was aimed at contributing to India's vision of Atmanirbharta and energy self-reliance, said a statement. The partnership is designed to combine OGEL's institutional strength and energy sector experience with HWT's proven technological and operational capabilities in the municipal solid waste bioenergy space, with the goal of developing scalable and sustainable clean energy solutions across India.
