New Delhi: On October 8, France handed over to India its first Rafale jet. However, despite the magnitude of the event, there was something else that stole the limelight on Twitter — the Rafale jet shastra puja (the act of worshipping weapons) performed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Singh performs shastra puja every year on Dussehra. However, this year, it was different because the puja was performed on French-made Rafale jet at the Merignac airbase near the city of Bordeaux in France, where the Defence Minister went to receive the fighter jet.

Shastra puja is a ceremony in which instruments, tools and weapons are worshipped. It is usually performed on Dussehra.

And Twitter had a field day!

The Rafale jet shastra puja drew all kinds of responses on Twitter on Wednesday. While many people praised Singh for sticking to his religious practices, others came up with memes to mock the superstition involved in the practice.
