Dr Niten Chandra (IAS) appointed as Secretary in Department of Legal Affairs

New Delhi: Dr Niten Chandra (IAS) has been appointed as Secretary in the Department of Legal Affairs under the Ministry of Law & Justice. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) on Saturday, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr Chandra to the post of Secretary in the Department of Legal Affairs with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Dr Chandra is a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Odisha cadre. He is currently serving as Additional Secretary of the Central Agency Section in the Department of Legal Affairs.

The Department of Legal Affairs is a department under the Ministry of Law & Justice. The role of the Department is to advise Ministries on legal matters including interpretation of the Constitution and the laws, conveyancing and engagement of counsel to appear on behalf of the Union of India in the High Courts and subordinate courts where the Union of India is a party.
