New Delhi: Harsh Vardhan Shringla, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) of 1984-batch, has been appointed as next Foreign Secretary. The Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) said on Monday. He will take charge as new Foreign Secretary on January 29, 2020. "With his new appointment, Shringla will replace Vijay Keshav Gokhale, who set to superannuate on January 28, 2020" the press statement added.

Education & background

Harsh Vardhan Shringla is an Indian diplomat and the current Indian Ambassador to the United States. He previously served as the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh and Ambassador to Thailand.

Shringla has graduated from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University and schooled from Mayo College, Ajmer. He has worked in the corporate and public sectors prior to joining the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). He has pursued courses and published papers on conflict prevention, economic diplomacy, the Indian diaspora and India-Bangladesh relations.
